Specialist Stop Smoking Advisers and Administrators Continual Professional Development Learning Event 2011 Somerset College for Arts and Technology 24th November 9.30-16.30 The Stop Smoking Advisers Continual Professional Development (CPD) Event is back and bigger than ever before. 2011 will see the inclusion of specialist stop smoking administrative teams alongside the specialist advisers. Key note presentations: NARS Nicotine Assisted Reduction to Stop Professor Linda Bauld Professor Bauld is an international expert in public health policy, and is Professor of Socio-Management, University of Stirling. She was previously Professor of Social Policy and Head of Department in the Department of Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath. Since 2007 she has served as the UK government's scientific adviser on tobacco control and as Vice-chair of Cancer Research UK's Tobacco Advisory Group. Her primary research interests are in the field of tobacco control and smoking cessation, and drug and alcohol policy. The Role of Common Mental Health Problems in Stopping Smoking Dr Lisa McNally Lisa is a Chartered Health Psychologist, specialising in the delivery of NHS Stop Smoking Services. She also works as a freelance consultant and coordinates the Smoke Free Minds Project Group. In addition to this role Lisa works within the NHS as a Public Health Lead for Stop Smoking Services and Mental Health Care. Her other projects include work with the National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT), the Tobacco Free Initiative at the World Health Organisation, and the PGD on Tobacco Control Harm Reduction at NICE. The programme The programme has been created following detailed consultation with Local Stop Smoking Service Managers, Advisers and Administrators. Smokefree South West runs this popular annual event to allow dedicated stop smoking teams in our area to access effective information and learning with the help of nationally renowned experts. Please see the attachments for full details. The popular market place will return providing an opportunity for local services to show case your excellent and innovative projects. There are five market stalls still available, if you would like to apply to showcase local work please contact us using the details below, please include a short brief about your market stall in the form of an abstract or a half page newspaper advert style. The afternoon will involve small, interactive expert workshops on a broad range of topic areas including Secondary Care, Pregnancy, QuitManager, Lost to Follow Ups and Inequalities. Please read the attached workshop summaries and select the workshop most relevant to your current work area. Who should attend This event is for members who are already experienced in the Local Stop Smoking Service Team, namely Advisers and Administrators, as this is a CPD event to assist in professional development. If you are not an Adviser or Administrator but would like to attend, please get in touch as soon as possible.
