Please don’t smoke where we play

Most of the local authorities in the south west support the voluntary scheme and have installed smokefree signs in their children’s play parks.

Why have smokefree play parks?

  • Children are influenced by what they see around them and copy behaviour
  • Children should be able to play in a clean and smokefree environment
  • Play parks should be free from all smoking related litter
  • Cigarette butts contain all of the carcinogens and pesticides present in cigarettes

We know that there is strong public support for smokefree play parks

  • 98% of parents surveyed said that they would support smokefree play parks
  • Over a third (34%) of smokers felt that they had stopped smoking in the play parks as a result of the smoking ban.
  • Smokers believe that there is a social etiquette not to smoke in play parks
  • The majority of parents believe that it is unacceptable to smoke around their children

A Smokefree Play Park toolkit is available to support our partners in the south west.

If you want to make your play parks smokefree and you are outside of the south west, Smokefree South West offer consultation and a toolkit of resources. For a free quotation contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
